Manu Parekh is one of India's most distinctive modernists, known for his expressive brushwork, intuitive colour, and a decades-long engagement with the city of Varanasi. A recipient of the Padma Shri and the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi and has held a practice spanning painting, theatre, and craft over six decades.

This is Banaras as colour alphabet, each hue a letter, each passage a word in a language that can be felt before it can be read. Parekh does not use colour descriptively. He uses it the way the city uses everything: with complete indifference to restraint, and complete faith that excess, here, is the only honest response. This print on canvas captures the expressive intensity of Parekh's painted, making this iconic imagery a work to be lived with every day.
