Krishen Khanna is one of India's most enduring modernists, a painter of deep moral seriousness whose figurative work has always held the human condition at its centre. The Last Supper is a theme Khanna returned to across his career, first encountering Leonardo's image as a child. In his version, the apostles become working-class Indian men, gathered around a empty table. The composition is compressed and tense, each figure absorbed in the weight of the moment.
