Manu Parekh is one of India's most distinctive modernists, known for his expressive brushwork, intuitive colour, and a decades-long engagement with the city of Varanasi. A recipient of the Padma Shri and the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi and has held a practice spanning painting, theatre, and craft over six decades.

"Banaras in Monsoon" captures the city in its most transformative season where the boundary between water and sky collapses. Parekh renders this atmospheric shift through dense, layered brushwork and a palette of deep greens, greys and ochres, the architectural forms of the riverfront pressing through the wash.
